Steve Brooks, MD, MHSc, FRCPC
Dr. Brooks is a Clinician-Scientist and Emergency Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Queen’s University. He is also appointed as a Scientist at Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of the Keenan Research Centre at St. Michael’s Hospital. He has developed a research program themed around improving the bystander response to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and knowledge translation in post-cardiac arrest care and emergency medical systems of care for cardiac emergencies. Much of his work to date has used an epidemiologic registry of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, the Epistry database of the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium, to explore various research questions relating to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest including socioeconomic status and bystander response, the optimization of public access defibrillator placement, cardiac arrest occurring in doctor’s offices and circadian rhythms in cardiac arrest occurrence and outcomes. Recently he implemented the Post Arrest Consult Team (PACT) at St. Michael’s Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. He is currently a member of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Subcommittee of the American Heart Association and the ACS/MI Taskforce for the International Liaison Committee for Resuscitation.
