Dr. Bartels is actively involved in global health research, primarily in conflict and disaster affected areas of the world. Her research aims to improve the science and practice of delivering humanitarian aid and her current focus is the impact of war on the health of women and children. Dr. Bartels is currently using an innovative approach, Cognitive Edge’s SenseMaker, to better understand conflict-related child marriage among Syrian refugee communities in Lebanon. This information will be used to identify local, community-based strategies that will help to address the issue.
Dr. Bartels has completed projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Darfur, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Lebanon and maintains affiliations with the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and with the Harvard School of Public Health.
